‘Why don’t we try’? A simple question with minimum words and maximum commitment. Surely a sentence without a guaranteed result should be shunned from the boardroom.
At Rocket MXD, we believe the strategic refinement is in the trying and the greatest chance of success lies in the “we”.
If you can open your mind to the idea, let’s start with the ‘we’. This is the untapped power of the collective, so often overlooked, or worse paid limp lip service. Why create teams if we don’t harness them? Think about the last time your C-suite created the right conditions and the right mindset to really harness your collective best thinking.
In our experience hesitancy stems from an aversion to conflict. Lately, ‘thrashing things out’ rarely ruffles a feather, no one really breaks a sweat when they have a ‘pow wow’. If we really are as passionate about our business issues as our Linkedin’s declare…let’s get into it more often!!
At Rocket MXD we actually seek to create creative conflict believing ‘group think’ is the antithesis to true collaboration.
We recognise that fostering and enabling environments buoyant with different and diverse opinion, fuelled with right brain and left brain thinking, simmering with cross functional expertise will result in better outcomes every single time.
So, what about the trying? Given the speed of change within which we operate, strategic agility, executional agility and learning agility have now become a corporate necessity.
Sure, we can mitigate for risk, (assuming the context doesn’t shift significantly while we are busy mitigating!) but the most successful companies aren’t afraid to try. Generating well thrashed out hypothesis and experimenting with clear KPIs allows high performing teams get closer to what will resonate in the market. They are allowed to collaborate, experiment and learn.
You’ll rarely hear the ‘fear of failure”- term in those teams.
